Album Cover Analysis
The purpose of an album cover is to promote the album and sell the artist. It needs to have features that will appeal to the specific target audience and illustrate the genre but album covers usually have similar features:
- image of artist (depending on genre)
- artwork
- artist name
- album name
The back cover of the albums usually have:
- track list
- record company name and logo
- websites
- maybe images, artist name and album name
- a recurring theme to the front cover
Depending on the genre of the music, the style of the album cover will be different. For example, the Trey Songz album is smooth RnB so the cover is just an image of the artist and a simple font while the Rihanna album reflects the more edgy feel of her music so her image is more edgy and there is minimal text (Only the letter R which could stand for both her name and the album name which is Rated R).
The Girlicious album is more in the pop genre and this is reflected by the sexy image of the artists on the front, the big stylised black font and the hot pink background.
