Intertexuality in Music Videos ...
Alicia Keys - Teenage Love Affair
This music video has a really simple concept of a teenage relationship and some of the hardships that occur. The lyrics express the feelings that the female in the relationship would be having and the music video is set in an American college environment in the 80s/90s.
Here are a few screen grabs of a part in the music video:
The main reference in this music video is "Diana Ross and
the Supremes".
The styling of Alicia Keys and the back-up dancers is very glamorous with the hair, shiny silver jewellery and long elegant dresses. There are four performers on stage but only one microphone and the dance movements are very fluid and in synch. The performers also start at the top of stairs and then come down during the song.
All these deliberate actions make this scene in the music video very reminiscent of the Supremes.
