Filming is over !

After an extremely long day, we have finished filming our music video!

It was tiring but a lot of fun. The artist was really friendly and patient with us. I think we were very professional and generally knew what needed to be done and how to do it.

I wish that the studio provided more lighting as I feel there wasn't enough light and this could prove to be a problem during editing.

Location reccy

Today, Catharrin and I went to the studio near Bow Church, East London to basically do a location reccy and get ideas of how we would achieve the look we were going for.

To be honest, the studio is nothing like I was expecting. It can be easily seen that the walls and floor are not white. However, they have a range of colour backdrops we can use and we will use them to achieve the look we are going for.

There is also a dressing room which we could film in if we decide to add storyline to the music video but it will really be used to relax in :)

Reflections

We presented our treatment today and it made me realise how much work we have to do; there are so many aspects we have to tie up before we are ready for our shoot which we plan to do in less than 3 weeks.

I think we need to have more group meetings; maybe even 2/3 times a week. We basically need to live in the media block to make sure we are prepared for the shoot.

I blogged the feedback we got from our teacher about our treatment on the group blog.

It's time for us to really buckle down !

New Ideas

After the discussion, I have a few ideas:

  • a dance studio and a recording studio
  • Knyt singing in a hallway, girls walk by him smiling and one touches his arm as she passes. He looks at her but lets her walk on, then turns to camera and winks/ gives a cheeky smile.
  • Practising for a show in the dance studio; two girls as background dancers.
  • Transition between the practice in dance studio and actual performance similar to the one shown in the screen-shots below from Charice - "Pyramid" ft Iyaz:

In the screen-shots, we see the artist performing on stage but to no audience. It then goes to a close-up, a black screen and then it seems to explode! She has changed into a stage costume, the set is now black with lights and spotlights shining down on her. I think we could do something like this which would eliminate the need for many extras in the music video.

  • Dance studio scenes similar to this one:
I like the idea of having the artist in the foreground with dancers out of focus in the background. I also like the notion of looking that is expressed; the artist is looking at the girl and the girl smiles back at him.

The above image is from Cassie's video for one of her debut singles "Long Way To Go". This is the kind of quirky, cheeky look directly at the camera that I think we could use. This allows the audience to connect more and feel as if they are part of what is going on in the video.

Reflections

Right before we had to present our treatment, we suddenly had second thoughts as to whether we wanted to make a music video for "She's My" or for our plan B track "2am" by Girlicious.

One of the reasons that we were considering to change tracks was because the Girlicious track didn't need any narrative and would consist of club shots and maybe a dance number.

We had a discussion with Mrs B and she made us realise that we didn't have to change tracks but needed to rethink our idea for the "She's My" video because shooting scenes in the club would be difficult as:
  • it would be difficult to control the people
  • there is no stage which would mean we would have to change our idea slightly
  • the owner hasn't definately agreed that we can use the club
  • lighting the club would be extremely difficult
After the discussion with Mrs B, we have realised that we can make the video a bit more fun and quirky. She said that we should look at studio locations as it is easier to make a studio look exactly how we want it to.
Also, Bianca has said she should be able to get some girls from her dance school to feature in our video.

Mrs B advised that we should go through the lyrics line-by-line and scribble down ideas for each lyric; we need to add another layer to the lyrics.

I feel very positive now that we are not stuck on the club idea as there are so many different things we can do and I already have a couple of ideas !
